Called “A treat from beginning to end” by the Toronto Star, AtG’s classic adaptation of Mozart’s Le Nozze di Figaro saw Lorenzo Da Ponte’s libretto modernized, translated into English and re-staged as one of Toronto’s millennial weddings in the historic Enoch Turner Schoolhouse with the audience attending as wedding guests. The original 2014 production won a Dora Award-winning production (Outstanding New Opera) and comes complete with ushers, a string quartet, and all the usual vows, tears, and hilarity.
Sung in English. English libretto by Joel Ivany.

"Thanks to a brilliant cast and remarkable attention to detail for a young company, Figaro’s Wedding is a spectacularly fine night of theatre, singing, laughs and drama."− The Toronto Star
Figaro’s Wedding | NOW Magazine
“Rating: NNNN. Ivany’s libretto, which blends text-messaging, Ontario Place, Craigslist and smartphone cameras into the original plot, is almost always clever, especially when the last act’s arias turn into speeches at the reception.”

“The most entertaining opera production of the season. … Based on what I witnessed on the top floor of the Burroughes Building at Queen and Bathurst Sts, Wednesday night’s premiere was a case study in exactly how to update a classic.”

“An uproarious, irreverent take on The Marriage of Figaro… If this is to be the look and feel of new opera in the twenty-first century, the form is well and truly secure.”
